BMW Gone Fully Autonomous
BMW has made a fully autonomous automobile, a robot car. This car is called BMW Track Trainer, is a 3 Series sedan, and is capable of racing the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California’s Monterey County, or any track it is programmed to run, at a limited amount of traction. It has mere seconds off the time of professional racers times in the same model.
BWM choose Laguna Seca because it is a difficult track that makes barreling into turns at high rates of speed more impressive, and also their research lab is not too far away. This car is used to train drivers how to drive the track to the best of their abilities, by showing them how the perfect racing line feels from the driver’s seat and by providing real-time feedback, with corrections. Also, the cars is a showcase for BMW’s Driver Assistance System, a series of radar and GPS sensors work in concert with computer-operated steering, brake and power systems to achieve a highly autonomous driving
I feel that this person did a great job of writing and knew a great deal of what he was talking about; because he got to experience the car first hand, so he is a great primary source of information. Also, he had a lot of background information from BMW about the car, why they chose the track, their research center in Silicon Valley and the year since they have been around.
